Yellow Zone Update for Puffer Hockey

Update from City of Owen Sound about Yellow Zone & Ice Rentals  

Nov 19, 2020  re: rising number of COVID-19 cases in Grey-Bruce and what this might mean for ice rentals at the Julie McArthur Regional Recreation Centre.

City Staff has consulted with Public Health about what might happen if our region moves into the yellow zone of Ontario’s new COVID-19 Response Framework and how this may affect our facility.

Public Health has confirmed that if our region moves into a yellow zone, ice rental operations at the Julie McArthur Regional Recreation Centre in Owen Sound would not be impacted. 

A Safety Plan and signed Conditions of Use document continue to be a requirement for all rentals. Rental agreement holders must continue to be vigilant and track participation including dates, names and phone numbers. We understand these requirements may have seemed cumbersome at the time, but having these completed as part of our rental process from the beginning has ensured that facility use will not be impacted for users.

We cannot stress the importance of following Public Health guidelines strongly enough. 

Masks are mandatory. Keep your distance. Wash and disinfect your hands regularly.

 2020-2021 Season Starts September 30

Good day Puffer hockey players;

Just a reminder that our season opener is this Wednesday, September 30 at 9:00 p.m. at the JMRRC.

Please also remember to bring your jersey/socks from last season.

Check the website for the schedule and rosters.

The format for this season is a bit different than usual because of covid.

We will have 7 skaters and one goalie per team. Play will be 4 on 4 for 30 minutes so it should be fast paced action.

The first penalty assessed a team is a 3 minute penalty served in the penalty box. If a second penalty is assessed during that time to the same team, the opposing team will add a player to the ice giving them a 5 on 3 advantage. This is to ensure the penalty box is not over crowded. In the instance of a third penalty while the first two are being served a penalty shot will be the punishment.

At this time players are asked to come to hockey partially dressed. Dressing rooms will be available for putting on skates, helmet etc. After the game each team has 20 minutes to get showered and dressed in their street clothes and exit the building.

We are looking forward to a fun season. During these trying times we need to have some normalcy and the exercise afforded by hockey. We ask each player to adhere to the regulations/conditions of play put forth by the city and public health so that we may continue to enjoy our activities.

Registration for 2020/2021 Season

 Good day Puffer Hockey players and potential players.

Registration for the upcoming 2020/2021 season will be on

Wednesday September 16, 6:30-8:00 pm

Under the tent at East Side Mario’s.

Fees will be $425. for 26 games.

Registration is vital this season so we know what our numbers are going to be so we can formulate our “return to play” plan for the city and public health.

Puffer Summer 2020 Executive Update

Hello Puffers.

We hope you are all healthy and looking to play hockey. 

The executive have met a couple of times since Covid cancelled the rest of our season.

We’ve been talking to a few players and the consensus so far is that guys would like to complete the season. 

We have 2 playoff games left and Super Saturday.

What do you think?

Give us your opinion on the season. 

Should we conclude the 2019-2020 season or should we just start fresh with the 2020-2021 season?

We are hoping the facilities will be fully open for at least 25 participants (the number we require for 2 full teams, 2 referees and 1 timekeeper) by the first of September.

will be moved to 8:00 and 9:00.  Tell your team mates!
